Cendrillon stars Joyce DeDonato and Alice Coote. The 2017/18 season closes the Massenet’s “Cendrillon” based on the story of Cinderella and conducted by Bertrand de Billy. Verdi’s tragedy “Louisa Miller” starring Sonya Yoncheva and Placido Domindo will be seen for the first times since 2006. Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte,” is set in Coney Island and features an ensemble cast including Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara. Rossini’s “Semiramide,” which has not been staged at the Met in 25 years, arrives in March.
This dynamic season continues with Puccini’s classic “La Boheme” which is performed by an exciting young cast. Next to premiere is the comic gem, Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore. Jonas Kauffmann performs as her lover Cavaradossi. Puccini’s dramatic tragedy “Tosca” performed in January is directed by Sir David McVicar and stars Kristine Opolais as Tosca, the heroine. The Met premier of Ades’ “The Exterminating Angel” sung in English, and based on a screen play by Luis Bunuel and Louis Alcoriza for the 1962 Bunuel film follows in the season.
The season continues with Mozart’s full length German Opera “Die Zauberflote,” conducted by Met Music Director Emeritus James Levine.
